Walk-a-Thon

2-3 chairs, unlimited members

This committee is responsible for the main fundraising effort for the PTO.  This year we will be having a walk-a-thon in the Fall. The committee will include but not limited to: coordinator, marketing, event flow, money collector, volunteer coordinator, and photographer

Book Fair

1-2 chairs, unlimited members

This committee works with Scholastic Books to host a school Book Fair.  The Members of this committee could continue working with Scholastic, or elect to have a book event with another provider such as Barnes and Noble or Border.  The committee members will be responsible for organizing, promoting, set-up and close down of the event.  The Book Fair is in November.

Box Tops

1-2 chairs, unlimited members

This committee collects BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION throughout the year. Committee Members count the Box Tops and send them in twice a year.

Pizza Day

This committee will assist the pizza vendor distribute pizza in the lunchroom.  Also, work with the chair to implement an additional hot lunch day.

Playmakers

2-3 chairs, unlimited members

This committee involves parents in a variety of roles to create a theatrical masterpiece that raises money for the PTO.  Opportunities include script writing, acting, set design and construction, lights and sound, publicity, ad sales, hospitality, concessions and more.

 

 

Fifth Grade Dinner

This committee organizes the 5th grade dinner at the end of the school year

Family Fun Events

1-2 chairs, unlimited members

This committee will organize an event for all students and family.  Including father daughter events, mother son events, family fun events, etc.

Welcome Back Picnic

This committee organizes the Welcome Back Picnic for the whole school to be held on one of the first Fridays after return to school.

 

 

Field Day

The chairs for this committee work with the Gym department to organize Field Day.  The Chairs are responsible for recruiting volunteers to help with the different activities and for providing refreshments and prizes for the students on Field Day.  Field Day is in MAY.

Green Committee

This committee will assist the lunch supervisors with composting/recycling/and refuse of student waste at lunch time

School Supplies

This committee advertises and organizes school supply kits.  The information in the spring and throughout the summer.

Student Variety Show

 The V-Show is an annual event held in fall that showcases the talents of the students.  The students perform individually or in groups.  There are typically 3 shows over one weekend in NOVEMBER.  The Chairs oversee and coordinate the committees.  Sub-committee positions include, but are not limited to:

  • concessions
  • communication
  • program
  • event-day performer backstage organization / gym & holding areas
  • finance
  • lights/sound, ticket sales and music

Teacher Appreciation Week

This committee is responsible for scheduling activities during Teacher appreciation Week in MAY to thank the Washington School Staff.

Washington Wear

This committee markets, orders and distributes apparel to promote school spirit. Orders are placed in September

 

 

Cultural Programs/Curriculum Enrichment

This committee works with teachers to research and schedule programs that enrich the school curriculum. To maximize the efforts of this committee, committee Chairs will remain for a two-year cycle.

Community Service Project

This committee schedules service-oriented events for families to participate in throughout the year.  At least two events should be scheduled during the 2012-2013 school year and should incorporate both Washington and Park Ridge communities.

Technology and Web Page Committee

 This committee works to enhance our use of technology and integrate new features into the PTO website.  In an effort to be more environmentally conscious, we hope all Washington School information will be posted on the web page.

Yearbook

This committee compiles, orders, and distributes the yearbook.

Sub-committees include:

PHOTO PRODUCTION – taking or gathering pictures to represent all activities at Washington School (grade level pictures, V-show, Field Day, Band, White Pines etc.)

LAYOUT PRODUCTION – create layouts for classroom portraits, groups and events, and the yearbook cover

DISTRIBUTION – tracks orders, and deliver yearbooks

 

 

Chess Club

The Chair for this committee works with the school and Chess-Ed. (outside vendor) to provide (at a minimum) two 8-week chess sessions beginning in OCTOBER and JANUARY.  Chair manages all aspects of the program, including student registration, creation of class lists, and solicitation of parent volunteers to assist during the classes. Parents who wish to volunteer in the classroom during Chess Club should join this committee as Members.

Wildcat Book Club/Battle of the Books

Math Club

This committee coordinates the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade math groups that meet once a month during lunch from to May. Activities include team tests and math/logic game days.  The Chair for this committee are responsible for all aspects of the program which includes: registering students, creating class lists, recruiting parent volunteers, administering tests and supervising game days.  In May, the chair assists with implementation of Math Mania (event with other D64 elementary school students).

 

 

Health Rep/Picture Day

This volunteer assists Washington’s Health Assistant on Picture Day by recruiting and scheduling volunteers to help on this day.

Science Olympiad

This volunteer committee is a liaison to the District for the Science Olympiad held in FEBRUARY.  Chair needed only; no Member positions for this committee.

Spelling Bee Representative

This volunteer committee will be a liaison to the District to help with the Spelling Bee (usually in JANUARY or FEBRUARY).

Social Media

This volunteer committee is responsible for posting photos and announcements to Washington PTO Facebook and social media pages, and answering questions posted to the accounts.

Girls on the Run and Let Me Run

1-2 chairs, unlimited members

Volunteers positions include site coordinators and coaches who will work together to coordinate and run the semi-weekly practices. The program begins in late March, and concludes with a 5K in May. Girls on the Run and Let Me Run are programs that inspires participants to be joyful, healthy and confident. They are open to children in 3rd-5th grades. By combining training for a 5k event with interactive lessons that encourage positive emotional, social, mental and physical development, this program provides a framework for setting and achieving life goals.
